Q: A few thoughts on how to get a job/internship in NY:
A: 1) Network, Network, Network Any friends, relatives, parent's friends, etc, in the industry? Don't be embarrassed to give them a call and ask them for help. That's the way the industry works. Look for past UF graduates in the industry. I know there is a Gator Club over there. Maybe you can contact the president and find out if any members are in marketing. 2) Do your homework Find out what Agencies you love and why you love them. Look at agency websites. Read Ad Age. Review award competition winners (Effie, Cannes) and the Superbowl to understand who is doing great advertising. 3) Be persistent Find out the hiring HR manager at the larger agencies. Send them your resume. Follow-up with a call. When you have "news" on projects you're working on (aka- just received xx award), let them know. 4) Understand your competition and what sets you apart Most people applying to big Agency jobs have done internships at smaller agencies previously.

Q: Do I need an MBA to work at an Ad Agency
A: It won't hurt, but it is certainly not a requirement and, unfortunately, Agencies will not pay you to have one. In the end though, it is really a decision you must make. On the upside, taking the time to earn an MBA will give you more knowledge about the business world, and will help you 'mature' (after all you will be a couple of years older when you start working). On the negative; your peers will have a head start on their careers, and unlike other areas of corporate America, you really won't be financially rewarded for your extra knowledge. In the end, it's your call.
Q: What is an Ad Agency?
A: An advertising agency or ad agency is a service business dedicated to creating, planning and handling advertising (and sometimes other forms of promotion) for its clients. An ad agency is independent from the client and provides an outside point of view to the effort of selling the client's products or services. An agency can also handle overall marketing and branding strategies and sales promotions for its clients.
Q: What is an Advertising Campaign?
A: An advertising campaign is a series of advertisement messages that share a single idea and theme which make up an integrated marketing communication (IMC). Advertising campaigns appear in different media across a specific time frame.
Q: Can you explain Search Engine optimization?
A: Search engine optimization (SEO), a subset of search engine marketing, is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. SEO can target contextual search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.
Q: What is a PO?
A: A Purchase Order (abbreviated PO) is a commercial document issued by a buyer to a seller, indicating the type, quantities and agreed prices for products or services that the seller will provide to the buyer. Sending a PO to a supplier constitutes a legal offer to buy products or services. Acceptance of a PO by a seller usually forms a once-off contract between the buyer and seller so no contract exists until the PO is accepted.[1] POs usually also specify additional conditions such as terms of payment, Incoterms for liability and freight responsibility, and required delivery date.
